Tsuruhashi B.B.Q. Restaurant
鶴橋燒肉
18798 Brookhurst Street
Fountain Valley, CA 92708
(714) 593-8393
I searched restaurants in Fountain Valley on Yelp, and Tsuruhashi came up as the #1 restaurant on the list. I had Japanese BBQ at Anjin in Costa Mesa before, and absolutely love it. I also like Gyu-Kaku. Dr. P has never tried Japanese BBQ before, and was eager to try when I suggested the restaurant.
Tsuruhashi is a small place. We arrived earlier in the evening to avoid the wait. The restaurant opens late, till 1am I think. It's a good place to drink beer and eat BBQ at late night.
Dipping Sauces
There were 3 different dipping sauces for the meat. One was sesame oil for the pork, the other two tasted similar, but one had more flavor to it. I like that one the best.
USDA Prime Boneless Short Rib ($7.25)
Japanese BBQ came from Korean BBQ, but Japanese people adjusted to their own style. So we saw a lot of Korean stuffs on the menu, like kimchi, kalbi, bibimbap, etc. USDA Prime Boneless Short Rib is like boneless kalbi. It was lightly salted and marinated.
The marbled meat was juicy, oily, and tasty.
Prime Rib Eye rolled with Perilla (Japanese Basil) and Pickled Plum ($8.95)
Prime Rib Eye rolled with Perilla and Pickled Plum sounded so good when we saw it on the menu. Perilla is the same as shiso leaf, right? We both love shiso leaf.
It took some practice to cook the meat on the grill without it falling apart. The taste of shiso leaf and meat tasted so good together. I am going to try to make my own version at http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com like this now.
Pork Cheek ($6.75)
Pork Cheek was sprinkled with salt, pepper, and green onion only.
It came with lettuce and http://www.eileenlikestoeat.commade miso sauce to wrap the meat with.
The meat was seasoned lightly so we could really taste the flavor of the meat. Simply delicious!
Chicken Leg Marinated with Home-Made Miso Sauce ($5.25)
Chicken leg Marinated can be ordered with simple salt and pepper, or their http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com-made miso sauce. We got the miso-sauce marinated one.
The miso sauce was so flavorful. The chicken tasted great.
Half way through the meal, our waitress brought us complimentary hot tea.
Seasoned Vegetables, Chopped Beef and Cooked Egg on Rice in a Hot Stone Pot ($8.25)
I wasn't sure if the meat would fill Dr. P up, so we ordered a bibimbap in stone pot.
Lots of vegetable with some meat, mixing with hot sauce, we both like it.
Egg Soup
The bibimbap came with egg soup.
Black Sesame Ice Cream ($1.50)
We ordered a Black Sesame Ice Cream for dessert. The flavor of sesame was tasty. Dr. P thought it tasted like sesame oil, haha.... Our waitress also brought each of us a fresh cup of hot tea with dessert.
Apple
Some apple at the end of the meal.
We like Tsuruhashi a lot. The meat quality was really good. Japanese BBQ is more delicate than Korean BBQ. We saw on the menu that they have a week night special for 2 people for about $25. We will be back soon to try that set.

Looks yummy! How long was the dinner? It seems it will take a while to BBQ your own food.
ReplyDeleteWe were there for about 1.5 hour.
We grilled 2 pieces at a time because we wanted to enjoy our dinner slowly.
But there were people grilling a whole plate of meat at one time.
So depending how you cook your meat, it can be a long or short dinner.
Look so good right now...the beef look juicy even after you grill it.
ReplyDeleteBy the way , Eileen...have you heard of Groupons? I used it several time to get good deals for food and activities around LA, San Diego...etc...I know you used Resturant Certificate and stuff...So though you might want to browse through the site...They are doing the PorterHouse Bistro Special right now in Beverly Hills. 50% off.
Here is the link: http://www.groupon.com/r/uu443109

ReplyDeleteCooking at http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com definitely will save money.
