We celebrated Dr. P's birthday this year at Scott's Restaurant & Bar.  I had a $50 gift certificate for this restaurant from Restaurant.com for a long time.  I have been waiting for a special occasions to go to this fancy restaurant.

Scott's Restaurant & Bar used to be called Scott's Seafood.  Maybe they decided that they don't want to specialize in seafood anymore and changed the name?  The restaurant is across the street from South Coast Plaza.  No self parking, and valet parking is about $3.

Willa Kenzie Estate Pinot Noir (half bottle) ($30.00)

Dr. P picked a Pinot Noir to go with the meal.  We thought a full bottle would be too much for the two of us.  Half bottle seemed like a better choice.  I had one glass, and Dr. P had two glasses from half a bottle of wine.

Bread

Our waiter brought sourdough bread to our table.  Nothing too special about the bread here.

Seafood on Ice ($22/person)
Lobster, shrimp, oysters, sashimi

We ordered Seafood on Ice from their raw bar menu.  The price is $22 per person.  We only ordered one to share.  The amount of food on the plate was definitely a lot smaller than we expected.  There were one oyster (Dr. P said the oyster was super fresh), a small piece of king crab leg (pretty good, but not as good as Boiling Crab's though), tuna sashimi (nothing special), and smoked salmon (nothing special there, either).

There were also a big piece of shrimp (very very tasty! The shrimp was grilled and seasoned with fresh herbs), and a tiny tiny piece of lobster tail (it was so small that the one bite I had barely filled the gap between my teeth. haha...).  The seafood was fresh.  But this was definitely overpriced for $22.

Three different sauces came with the cold seafood plate.  Cocktail, mustard, and wasabi.  I actually liked them all.  The wasabi sauce was surprisingly strong.  Yup, it brought tears to my eyes.

Lobster Bisque ($13.00)

Since it was Dr. P's birthday, he got to be king for the day and pick whatever he wants from the  menu.  He was deciding between an appetizer, soup, or salad.  Since he loves soup, he picked Lobster Bisque at the end.  The soup was creamy and rich.  I always find lobster bisque to be too salty, but not Scott's.  It had just the right amount of seasoning.  I could taste some mushroom flavor in the soup, also there were lots of small bits of lobster meat in the soup.  Very delicious!

Remember the nothing-special sourdough bread?  The lobster bisque had magic power to turn the so-so bread into spectacular bread.  The bread was so good when dipped into the lobster bisque soup.

Prime Delmonico - 16 oz ($39.00)
Bliss potatoes, haricots verts

We decided to get one meat dish and one seafood dish to share.  I let Dr. P picked the dishes.  For meat, he chose Prime Delmonico.  It was a big piece of bone-in grilled steak.  It was cooked to a perfect medium, and seasoned perfectly as well.  The meat was fat, juicy, and too good to describe in words.  I especially love the parts near the bones.  The meat near the bones always has the best flavor.  The potatoes were creamy and cheesy.  Green beans were fresh and crisp.  Delish!

Chilean Seabass ($33.00)
sake kasu, sushi rice, baby spinach, red pepper relish

For seafood dish, Dr. P picked Chiliean Seabass.  The fish was so soft.  However, everything tasted sweet on this plate.  The sauce was sweet, and seemed like the rice was cooked with sugar water or something.  I enjoyed the freshness and texture of the seabass.  But overall, I prefer to save the sweetness for dessert course.

Truffle Mac-n-Cheese ($8.00)

We ordered Truffle Mac-n-Cheese because it just sounded good on the menu.  We both took a bite and went "OoooMmmmGggg".  This was the absolutely best mac-n-cheese I've ever had on the whole wide world!  I have no idea how they could make the cheesy sauce so delicious.  And there were pieces of real truffle!  We just love this dish!  In fact, if I go back to Scott's again, maybe I'll just order two of those as my main entree.  Wait, no, maybe three!

Birthday Sundae

Dr. P got a free birthday sundae for his birthday!  A big scoop of vanilla ice cream drizzled with chocolate syrup, and a big piece of marshmallow.

Happy birthday to Dr. P!  We had a great birthday dinner at Scott's Restaurant & Bar.  They have a very cozy lounge area with fireplaces both indoor and outdoor.  Maybe we can try their happy hour next time.  Oh and definitely have to go back for the Mac-n-Cheese again!

  2. Looks like a great meal but the "Seafood on Ice" looks more like "Mountain of Ice with a Little Seafood" to me.

    That's exactly how I felt!

  3. yup, seafood on ice was good but micro in size for the price. The steak and truffle mac and cheese are the best I think I've ever had!! The dessert and company were both terrific too :)

I want truffle mac and cheese NOW!
