My brother went to Bamboodles when it first opened sometime last year. He has been raving about their noodles. Then last weekend, he told me about a daily $1 noodle special. When Dr. P came to visit me last Saturday, I dragged him there with me to see if the $1 deal was real. And it was!
If you go on weekday, you can order just the $1 special. But on weekend, you have to order one item (including drinks) to get the $1 special. The $1 special changes daily.
凍咖啡 Cold French Coffee ($2.45)
We ordered two of the $1 special, so we had to get two regular priced items. Dr. P picked iced coffee. This was the Cantonese style iced coffee with condense milk. Tasty! And our waitress gave Dr. P a free refill, too!
是日特式竹筒蒸飯 Daily Special Steam Rice ($2.95)
榨菜肉絲 Preserved Vegetable With Pork
My pick was the daily special steam rice, which was preserved vegetable with pork on the day we went. The rice was steamed inside a bamboo. It was good, but there was too much rice and too little preserved veggie and pork. Portion didn't look big, but it actually was. The two of us only finished half of it.
香辣擔擔麵 Spicy Noodle ($5.95 $1.00)
The $1 special noodle that day was Spicy Dan Dan Noodle. It had ground pork, peanut powder, green onion, spicy sauce, along with their special hand-made bamboo noodle. The noodle was good, but honestly, there was nothing too special about it. It was definitely filling. And I am not going to complain because it was only $1.
While we were eating, we witnessed how the bamboo noodle was made. The chef used a long bamboo, beat the dough by sitting on it, over and over again. I am not sure if it is sanitary to use the bamboo to make the noodle. They just left the bamboo standing at the corner against the wall after they were done. Well, this restaurant does have a big red "C" rating. If you don't feel comfortable with that, don't come here!
The food here was good, although nothing too special. But for the price, even with the "C" rating, I'd definitely come back again! I mean, where else can you get a bowl of noodle for $1?

how can i compete with that..... how are they making money?....
ReplyDeleteTrust me, your noodles are much better!
Wow that's so cheap!
ReplyDeleteI think to beat the economy, a lot of restaurants are coming out with special deals to get more customers.
I just wonder how do they make money that way.
what a bargain!! I would totally give it a try, especially that pork bamboo steam rice one. Love it.

I haven't been to any Indian buffet for a long time.
My favorite one is Bombay Palace, but that's about $15/person.
I also like this one place in Rosemead a lot, but now they're closed.
So I guess I'm no help there. Please let me know if you find a good place, yeah?
Can't believe the price! Is this for lunch only?
ReplyDeleteNo, it's not lunch only.
The $1 special is all day long.
I went dinner last saturday, it was not bad. :)-
ReplyDeletethank you Eileen for always telling us where good deals are

You're welcome!
They use bamboo to make noodles in Hong Kong as well, exactly the way as you described.
