Indian Restaurant

Dr. Park came to my side of town to visit and was in the mood for some Taiwanese food. His first request was QQ Cafe, but I was in the mood for something different. I suggested Indian Restaurant, the famous Taiwanese "beer house" in San Gabriel.
We arrived around 6:30pm and luckily got the last table available. There were at least 30 people waiting outside by the time we left. I know this restaurant is popular, but didn't know it was THAT popular. Most of the patrons were Chinese, but there were a few non-Asian also.
This restaurant only has waitresses, no waiters. There were at least 10 waitresses busy walking around in their "Indian" outfit. Low cut red halter top, black super mini skirt, black knee high boots, and a red feather in the hair. I had to warn Dr. Park, "Eyes on the food ONLY!" haha....
Taiwan Beer ($5.50)
Gotta have Taiwan Beer at a Taiwanese beer house. I love the taste of Taiwan Beer. It's not bitter, even a little bit sweet. When Dr. Park saw the Taiwan Beer bottle, he said, "So Taiwan beer is just called Taiwan Beer? They don't even have a name for it?" I said, "Taiwan Beer IS the name." He said, "It's like buying a shirt and it says "SHIRT" on the shirt." haha.... Funny! I never thought of that.
Taiwanese Pickled Cabbage
The waitress brought us Taiwanese pickled cabbage with the beer. A few bites of the spicy and sweet cabbage, we were more hungry than ever.
Grilled Chicken Heart ($2.99) / Grilled Chicken Kabobs ($2.99)
We ordered grilled chicken heart and grilled chicken kabobs for appetizer. Each order came with two skewers. The chicken kabobs was delicious. The marinated BBQ sauce was great and the meat was grilled just right. The chicken heart was a little disappointing. It didn't have much seasoning and it had that "chicken organ" taste. We didn't like it at all.
Fried Pork Intestine ($8.99)
I don't even know how many times I mentioned this in my blog, but I LOVE INTESTINE! It's probably my favorite food in the whole world. So of course I had to order intestine. Fried pork intestine stuffed with green onion. It was good, but not the best I've had. The intestine lacked flavor. But the pepper salt helped.
Stir Fried Eggplant with Basil ($8.99)
Eggplant was a no-no food for me when I was younger. But lately I start loving it. The Stir Fried Eggplant with Basil was so good with rice. I love the sauce. The tender pork and eggplant were cooked perfectly. But Dr. Park thought it was a bit too sweet for his taste though.
Three Flavor Combo In Pot ($9.99)
Three flavor dish is a must ordered item at Taiwanese restaurant. We opted for the combo, which had chicken, octopus and squid. It was good, but not the best. I like the tiny whole squid a lot. Dr. Park liked the octopus. But chicken had too much bones and too little meat.
Lamb Stew ($18.99)
I know we already ordered plenty of food. But I saw the lamb stew on other guests' table and just had to have it, too. The lamb stew not only had tons of lamb, but a lot of vegetable as well. I especially like the sweet gogi berries in my soup. The soup had a distinct Chinese herbal taste to it. I was a little worried that Dr. Park might not like it. But he ended up loving it. The waitress also came back to refilled the soup for us. One order of lamb stew is enough for 4-5 people. We took some leftover http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com. I added rice to the leftover soup and made porridge. It was Delicious with a capital D.
After dinner at Indian Restaurant, I started missing Taiwan more. I remember going to beer houses in Taiwan with friends. Drinking beer, eating delicious Taiwanese food, chatting and laughing with friends under the stars (most of the beer houses in Taiwan have large outdoor seating area). Dr. Park and I talked about taking a trip to Taiwan just to eat. How fun would that be?
Indian Restaurant is pretty good. I like our dinner. If you're just there to eat, be sure to get there early. But you can also come late and enjoy a few drinks with friends. Those sexy waitresses will be there all night for your enjoyment. haha....

ReplyDeleteSIgh...my favorite place to go...but that place always packed like grand opening la...
ReplyDeletei went there few times. haha i wonder how much tips those waitress can get since they have to wear like that. haha
ReplyDeleteLook so yummy!
Well, it's actually not unusual for beers to be named after a place name:
ReplyDeleteFor example, Tsingtao Beer is from Qingdao, China
Or Budweiser, which is from Budweis (city), Czech Republic
I went to this restaurant twice,
ReplyDeletethe food was really good and those waitresses were so hot!!
吃來吃去還是這家beer house最好吃耶.
ReplyDeleteI always get their stinky tofu and it's always good.
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review on this place. :) I was taken here a few times by my friends in the area, and it's interesting. Some good food and some misses (as you noted as well).
I'll have to try the Lamb Stew next time I'm in the area. :) (Love Lamb!)
Now that I know you love Intestine, you definitely have to try the fresh Tripas for sure at Breed Street. :) (Oh there's also a new restaurant you might be interested in that I just visited: XIV. They allow you to create your own Tasting Menu and you can order as many or as few dishes as you want. :)
羊肉爐耶~~真好,可惜我不能吃orz
ReplyDelete好像開始是吃火鍋的天氣了呢
