Yesterday I blogged about my one month Fresh & Easy collections. Today let's take a look at one month of Banh Mi Che Cali.
Vietnamese Chicken Rice (Xoi Man) ($2.75)
Usually I come here on the way to work. So usually I am in a hurry. They always have packed and ready to go items on the counter. Those items are $2.75 each. They have different selections daily. This is Vietnamese Chicken Rice. The grilled chicken meat was good. Tender and sweet. But re was no sauce from the chicken so the rice have no flavor at all. They do give you a pack of soy sauce. I never put soy sauce on my rice. But I did on that day. It would be so much better if they can give you fish sauce with this. I like the chicken, but probably won't get this again.
BBQ Pork Spring Rolls ($2.75)
3 BBQ Pork Spring Rolls in the box with peanut dipping sauce. I like Vietnamese style BBQ pork. It's like a thick, soft and flavorful piece of ham.
Pork & Veggies Vermicelli ($2.75) / Pork Rice Noodle Roll (Banh Cuon) ($2.75)
The Banh Cuon is one of my favorite items from this restaurant. They make it fresh right behind the counter.
Pork & Veggies Vermicelli ($2.75)
I really like this noodle dish. Tons of vegetables, mushroom and tofu with a bit of BBQ pork. Pour the sweet fish sauce over the thin vermicelli, yum!
Pork & Veggies Noodle ($2.75)
They also have a thicker noodle version. I like the vermicelli one better.
Pennywort Juice (Nuoc Rau Ma) ($1.75)
I saw my Vietnamese/Chinese coworker drinking this green drink one day. I asked him what it was. He told me the Vietnamese name and said it's called Pennywort in English. Never heard of this plant before. But I remember seeing the green drink in the dispenser next to the milk tea at Banh Mi Che Cali. So one day I went in and ordered "that green drink over there" from the cashier. This drink tastes like grass, in a good way. It's really refreshing and it cools you down on a hot day. But my coworker told me not too many people like the drink. But I like it. I think it's healthy for you too. After all, it's green, right? Isn't green food supposed to be healthy for you?
Pork Chop Rice ($4.75)
Per Dr. Park's request, I bought him Vietnamese pork chop rice from Banh Mi Che Cali. I went in on a Sunday afternoon and they were super super busy. I waited almost 30 minutes for this pork chop rice. When I got to Dr. Park's place, I had to eat some since I waited so long for it. And it better be good. It was good. The pork chop was really tasty. The egg was great. I didn't like the pork skin thing too much though. But overall, this rice dish was pretty good. But 30 minutes wait, no good.
Pork & Shrimp Rice Dumpling ($1.75)
I'm always up to try new things. So when I saw this new item on the counter, I just grabbed it without even knowing what it was. Coworker told me this is rice dumpling. The see through skin was made of flour and rice. I had something like this in Taiwan. It tasted like the "Taiwanese Meat Ball (Ba Won)" skin. Dim Sum has something similar as well. Inside there were shrimp and ground pork. Dipping the dumplings in fish sauce and enjoy. Pretty good, and pretty good price too. 6 dumplings for $1.75 only.
Be back for some more delicious Vietnamese food from Banh Mi Che Cali next month!

Wow that chicken looks delicious!!! The price is super cheap too! Yum Yum! I totally know what you mean about having some sauce or flavor to the rice. It just gives the whole dish the extra Ooomph! ^_^

最近在alhambra, main跟chapel的交叉口, 有家"棉花糖", 裡面的牛肉麵只要2.99說, 但限堂食. 還不錯吃, 但上菜速度有點慢
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen,
ReplyDeleteNice 1 month review of BMCC. :) I agree that it's nice to pick up a quick Pork Chop rice, but not if it takes you 30 minutes.
Hope all is well! :)
