Last Saturday was Claire's daughter Mikayla's 2 year old birthday party. Claire invited more than 100 guests and awarded me the catering job. I have never cooked for 100 people before. Even though I just need to make a few dishes, but for 100 servings? That's a lot of work!
I woke up on Friday around 1pm. Went shopping for food. Started preparing right after I got http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com. I worked until Saturday morning at 7am to finish everything! I was soooo stressed out and actually started to hate cooking. Cooking for 100 people is seriously not a one person job. I will never do a catering job for more than 30 people.
I made 6 dishes. All are kid-friendly food.
Pig In A Blanket
120 Pig In A Blanket. This one was pretty easy to make. Wrapped mini sausages with croissant pastry then baked.
Potato Salad
20 pounds of potato made this potato salad. Peeling 20 pounds of potato was the worst. Potato, grated onion, mayo, mustard, salt, pepper, green onion and paprika.
Sweet Sandwich Roll
240 Sweet Sandwich Roll. 60 each of Nutella, peanut butter, grape jelly and orange marmalade.
Turkey & Ham & Cheese Sandwich
120 Turkey & Ham & Cheese Sandwich. I saw the birthday girl Mikayla picking out only the ham, turkey and cheese to eat. So much like her mom, haha.
Ketchup Macaroni
2 giant tray of Ketchup Macaroni. Originally Claire wanted me to make the regular macaroni and cheese. But I thought the butter, milk and cheese dish wouldn't be good to be left outside for the whole day. So I made the ketchup version with veggie bits and hot dog. I remember having this "Asian" style of macaroni when I was little.
Beef and Onion Patties
120 Beef and Onion Patties was supposed to be fore 120 mini hamburgers. I bought the bread to Claire's house to assemble. But people started eating the patties just as it was so I didn't even make the hamburger.
Claire's mother also made delicious egg rolls and popcorn chicken. There were also lemonade and boba milk tea. But people were so busy playing that not too many people actually ate.
Claire got a water slide and maze for the kids to play. But adults started playing as well.
Even Dr. Park started playing the water gun. First with the kids, then he got me all wet, too. Pretty much everyone at the party got wet at one point or another. We had so much fun playing with water under the hot sun that day. Great birthday party!
At night time, we went to another party. It was Dr. Park's friend's engagement party. The food there was much simpler. Pasta salad, fried chicken and sandwiches. At this adult party, people were busy drinking and chatting and didn't eat much either. So I've learnt that people generally don't eat a lot at parties. Just some simple dishes will do. But the essential thing is drinks, drinks, and drinks.
I had lots of fun at both party. But never again will I do a 100 people catering job. At least not by myself!
