I went down to the dealership for car maintenance in Rancho Santa Margarita. I've never been to that city before, and wanted to explore the area a little after taking care of the car business. So I flipped through my Entertainment Book and picked a eatery around the area to go to. It's a fun way to see a new city because I get to drive around knowing there are food waiting for me at my destination.

BBQ Chicken Chopped Salad ($9.95)
Our 3-blend salad tossed with a Sweet and Spicy Ranch dressing, lemon garlic chicken, black beans, roasted corn, cilantro, tomato, topped with avocado and a zest of BBQ sauce.

Cinnamon Productions is one of those bakery cafes similar to Corner Bakery and Panera Bread. There is the bakery side with bread, cupcakes, and pastries. Then there's the cafe side that offers salad and sandwiches. My EB coupon was for buy 1 get 1 free. I decided to get one salad and one sandwich to bring home.

The salad I picked was BBQ Chicken Chopped Salad.  It wasn't bad, but nothing too special about the salad. It tasted like a simple salad that I can easily make at home. The chicken breast was a bit on the dry side. The spicy ranch dressing wasn't spicy at all. We only finished half the salad that night. It tasted fresh enough. But the next morning when I took out the leftover from the fridge, THERE WERE MOLD ON THE SALAD!!!! What?!?! How did those gray and greenish fuzzy disgusting looking mold grow so fast overnight? Was there mold before that I didn't see? Did I eat moldy veggies? I don't know, and I don't really want to know.

Albacore Tuna Salad Sandwich ($7.45)
White Albacore Tuna grilled with Swiss Cheese on Cinnamon Raisin Bread.

I picked Albacore Tuna Salad Sandwich because I want to try their cinnamon raisin bread. Since their name is cinnamon productions, I assumed cinnamon must be their specialty. The sandwich came with a side of tasteless pasta salad and pickle.

I enjoyed the thick slices of cinnamon raisin bread. The tuna salad was creamy and good. The combination of the sweet bread with savory tuna salad worked wonder. It was a really good sandwich. However, I don't think it was worth $8 though.

I think it's unlikely that I'll return to Cinnamon Productions. Seeing mold in my half eaten salad is a pretty good reason, no?

  1. Maybe the mold came from the avocado? It has plenty of brownish/grey specks in your photo...sad to hear it got mold as it does look quite tasty!
Now you mentioned it, I just noticed the avocado didn't look too fresh.
The fuzzy mold was mainly on the tomatoes and beans the next morning.

  2. Yikes! Mold! That's crazy! There's a Cinnamon Productions in Ladera Ranch (newly opened), and I've always enjoyed their breakfast items more than their lunches. I think cinnamon rolls and bakery items are great.

Maybe I should try their bakery items rather than salad next time.
    Their cupcakes looked really good.
