公園先生很愛吃辣,最愛的中國菜就是水煮牛魚,每次他來我家這一帶都會喊著要吃spicy Chinese food,這家新開的大湘園其實也算是老餐廳,最早他是開在現在的重慶川菜地址的湖南酒家,後來搬到Alhambra但是不幸一場火災把店燒了,於是他們又重新在Rosemead開了這家餐廳,我帶著公園先生一起來嚐嚐是不是我記得的好味道。
我們到的時間是星期六的下午兩點多,餐廳只有我們一桌客人,有位服務生因為有我們這一桌客人,就一直站在我們桌子旁邊,其實我們很想跟他說他可以坐下來休息我們不介意。
毛式紅燒肉 Maos Braised Pork w/ Garlic & Bamboo Chunks (US$8.98)
公園先生說他只要他的水煮牛魚,剩下的菜色讓我隨便點,我決定點兩道辣的和兩道不辣的綜合一下口味,才不會吃到太辣。第一道點的不辣的就是毛式紅燒肉,這道紅燒肉好吃極了,肉燉的又香又嫩,尤其肥肉的部分一點都沒有油膩感,連公園先生不怎麼喜歡吃肥肉的都稱讚不錯吃,還有很多好吃的竹筍塊,不過蒜頭也給的太多了吧!這一道帶回家爸媽也都說好吃。
水煮兩樣魚牛 Boiled Beef Fish w/ Hot Sauce (US$10.98)
這就是公園先生朝思暮想的水煮魚牛,每次在重慶川菜吃這道菜,我都被辣到不行,吃幾口就投降了,不過這裡的水煮魚牛卻非常對我的口味,這道菜會辣會麻,但是不會麻辣到讓我覺得不舒服的無法入口,尤其是下面的白菜特別好吃,公園先生也直說這家的比較好吃喔!
香辣羊排 House Special Lamb Rib w/ Spicy Sauce (US$11.98)
這道香辣羊排是看到網路上大家推薦的菜色,一根一根炸的酥脆的小羊排,吃起來鹹鹹辣辣的,這道大家都說好吃的菜,我和公園先生卻都覺得還好而已,我們好像都不太喜歡炸的油油的東西,這道菜在餐廳的時候吃是酥脆的,回家隔天加熱吃就變成軟軟的,我反而比較喜歡吃軟軟的耶!
清炒A菜 Sauteed Taiwan Lettuce (US$7.98)
清炒A菜點來補充蔬菜營養,好吃好吃,公園先生第一次吃A菜,我有跟他說這是台灣特產的好吃青菜喔!
我們兩個人點了四道菜其實真的是太多,公園先生還吃了兩大碗飯,最後我們的菜看起來跟沒動過一樣,帶回家全家人又吃了兩頓,我們很喜歡這家大湘園,覺得比重慶川菜更好吃,不過公園先生唯一不滿意的地方就是這裡沒有像重慶那種三拼小菜,所以他沒有吃到最愛的涼拌小黃瓜,不過除了這點以外,以後我們想吃辣應該都會來這家吧!下次要來試試剁椒魚頭。
以前我很愛吃大上海的水煮兩樣。

而印象中最好吃的水煮牛肉還是十年前在大陸吃到的...(殘念)

楼上的同学,毛氏红烧肉是湖南的特色菜肴,因为我们国家原领导人毛泽东主席非常喜欢所以就命名为毛氏了.
ReplyDeleteELIEEN,看你的食记很久了,不过一直在潜水,今天上来有话说,你的食记真是太好了,简直是我和LG出去觅食的指南针呢.
对了忘了告诉你,我两个礼拜之前去吃了重庆川菜,味道的确不过,但是我们离开的时候是从厨房里面穿行,然后到后面的停车场(我们去的是GARVEY那边的),结果我和LG同时看见,一个炒锅师傅抬手把抽油烟机里面的油拉出来,倒在锅里,不知道他们是不是用回收油在做饭呢,而且我和LG回来之后都有不同程度的肚子不舒服,希望他们不要这么做吧,不过以后我想我和LG是不会去了.今天讲这么多只想提醒一下看你食记的朋友,并无恶意!
大湘园好吃的还有蒜苗炒腊肉,小炒羊肉,这两个菜是我们去必点的,对了,那个剁椒鱼头我觉得他们做的非常不好吃,肉一点都不进味,而且现在觉得他的分量越来越少了.我吃了无数家LA的川菜系列,最好吃的水煮还是在云南过桥园,比较正宗呢.

應該是用來吃的吧
但是我們又都不吃
所以就浪費囉
This place is so famous among Hunan and China Chinese expats in LA because of how authentic the dishes are. 剁椒魚頭 is its most requested dish. I've yet to hear one person say that it doesn't taste good.

小弟在此推薦幾家特色湖南菜(獻醜了):
ReplyDelete1.大湘園(我都還習慣叫他湖南酒家)好吃的有:小炒豬角皮,小炒山羊肉,毛氏紅燒肉,紫蘇黃瓜(有人不敢吃紫蘇的味道),口味蟹.
2.雲南過橋園(另有Hacienda heights分店,但廚師不同,所以略遜)好吃的有:豆花米線,水煮類,蒜泥白肉,汽鍋雞湯,虎皮椒加皮蛋(很特別的菜).
3.辣椒王(跟San Gabriel 小陸子清粥同一個plaza)好吃的有:口味蝦,小炒羊肉,炒田雞,臘八豆炒大白菜.
4.湖南小館(Monterey park)這家就在超市旁,所以魚頭特別新鮮,醬椒或剁椒都比以上幾家好吃,臘八豆炒大白菜也好吃.

ReplyDeleteI cannot read Mandarin very well but I really enjoyed your photo of the boiled beef and fish in hot sauce. That dish is one of my favorites. Is this the same restaurant that was previously located near Valley and Garfield that had multiple flat screen t.v.s on the walls in addition to a framed collage of a brown Chinese winter jacket? Have you tried the same dish at "Yun Nan Can Ting" on Garfield South of the 10? Where is your favorite iteration of this dish? I would love to know. Thanks.

This restaurant used to be at Atlantic/Valley.
There was a fire that burnt down the whole row of shops last year.
So they relocated to the new address with a new name.
I've never been to Yun Nan Can Ting, but read really good reviews about that place.
I'll definately try it out in the near future.
As for Boiled Fish & Beef, I think Hunan Seafood does it best.
It's not as spicy and overpowering as Chung King.
Where's your favorite restaurant serving this dish?
去大湘園最好不要點臘八豆炒大白菜,是地雷!而去辣椒王不要點小炒豬角皮,太軟,不Q!而且辣椒王的環境,個人講話很大聲,有時後還有人直接抽起煙來,不太衛生.雲南過橋園,環境也不是太乾淨,(hacienda heights分店比較乾淨,但食物比較差)服務生都不太理人,因為太忙了!湖南小館則是太...太小一間了;以上是他們的缺點啦!(小弟認為)

Is the food at the new Hunan restaurant the same? Same chef?
They had a really good black jitang (chicken soup).
I never tried the boiled beef/fish in hot sauce dish there.
Thanks for telling me about their new location! I was always wondering where they went.
When I go there, I'll order it for sure.
I've had the dish at Chung King and I agree with you that is was too spicy and unbalanced.
It seems as though they put in the numbing peppers wholesale and hoped it would taste good.
My favorite is at Yun Nan. I go there so often that I know a lot of the people there :-)
They also have really good side dishes at the counter and sour/spicy bai cai (cabbage).
The sui jiao (steamed dumplings) w/hot sauce is really good too.
I am looking for a restaurant that serves this cold thin sliced pork w/garlic and hot sauce.
They had a really good rendition at this restaurant on Garfied across the street from Yun Nan and close to Giang Nan.
I don't recall the name, but the chef was from a very famous hotel in Taipei.
Unfortunately the restaurant closed.
They also had this really good dungeness crab dish fried in egg yolk batter.
Have you heard of that restaurant?
I would love to know where they relocated to :-)

I think it's the same chef. The food tastes as good as the old restaurant.
My dad always order the chicken soup with bamboo.
I don't know that restaurant across street from Yun Nan. Sorry.
我覺得妳應該不會喜歡過橋園的水煮牛,因為比重慶的更麻更辣。我看妳的食記覺得妳可能沒正宗四川人那麼能吃辣菜,所以味道淡點的比較適合妳,大華對面新開一家湘菜(Hilton Plaza)就是這種。

ReplyDeleteI went to Lucky Dragon (321 W. Garvey) this weekend and ordered the boiled beef/fish in hot sauce and it was not a good choice. This was the worst I had in LA. They did have this stewed lamb in hot sauce dish that was a special for the day that was really really good. I've been to this restaurant many times. What do you think of it? I think Jonathan Gold liked it. I'm always looking for new places to try. What other Szechuan restaurants do you recommend?

I have never been to Lucky Dragon so I can't really tell you what I think of the restaurant.
I haven't been to too many Szechuan restaurants.
My favorite is Hunan Seafood for now.

昨天跟太座去試了,小抄黑山羊很好,只是內人對那餐廳衛生被抨為"C"有點担心.
ReplyDelete個人第一次在LA吃湘菜,以往都在中國吃到.
在中國湘菜一般很大眾化,因材料不會收費很高.
這里有點相反仍在適應中.這個價位在LA可以有很多不同的選擇.
在這兩三年也是頭一糟付賬時自動不找贖,以扣小費.
還想再多給點......:)
中午12點多到1點半才三到四枱客,可能晚上會好點吧
我們之前去的時候是B,現在退步到C喔?
不過你吃的開心比較重要
