Too bad Rosemary's Restaurant only opens for lunch on Friday now.  Otherwise we'd definitely be there on our second day at Las Vegas.  We also went to Lotus of Siam during our last visit, and enjoyed their super spicy Thai food.  I remembered they have a lunch buffet, and decided to go check it out.

The restaurant was completely full on a Monday during lunch hour.  We waited for about 15 minutes in their little waiting area with beautiful Thai statues.

The focus of this picture is the buffet behind Dr. P.  haha....  We took a look at their small buffet.  There were some soup, fried rice, pad thai, curry, fried stuffs, and some dishes that looked more like Chinese stir-fried food.  The price is about $10/person.  I thought the pad thai and red curry looked good, but nothing else was too appealing to us.  So we decided to order off their regular menu.

Thai Iced Coffee ($2.50)

Thai Iced Coffee was sweet and good.

Tom Yum Kai ($8.95)
Hot and sour soup with chicken, lime juice, lemongrass and straw mushroom.

I was in the mood for some soup, and ordered Tom Yum Kai.  Sour plus spicy is the best flavor!  The soup was very sour and very spicy.  Lots of chicken in the soup.  I like the soup in the beginning, but when I had the second bowl, it was a bit much.  Lotus of Siam's flavor is definitely a lot stronger than any other Thai restaurants, and I don't think we're used to that.

Chicken Larb ($8.95)
Ground pork, chicken or beef chopped onion, green chili, lime juice,, served with fresh cabbage.

Chicken Larb is Dr. P's favorite Thai salad.  The Chicken Larb here at Lotus of Siam tasted very different than the ones that we have in Los Angeles.  The flavor was completely different.  I am not an expert on Thai food, so I couldn't really tell if they used different spices or just different portion of spices.  Lotus of Siam's version had a really strong fish sauce taste.  Every flavor was just like 10 times more intensified.  It was salty and spicy.  I.....  don't think I like it.

Roasted Duck Curry ($10.95)
The combination of roasted duck, pineapple, bell pepper and tomato in red curry base with a touch of coconut milk make this dish very tasty and unique.

Roasted Duck Curry was the best dish!  There weren't that much duck meat, but lots of duck skin.  We love the red coconut curry.  Ate so much rice because of it.

If you are looking for better value, I would suggest to try their lunch buffet.  But if you want unique authentic Thai dishes, then ordering off the menu is the better choice.  I love the curry dish here.  But the other dishes' flavor was just too intense for my taste.  If this is truly authentic Thai food, I think I still prefer slightly Americanized Thai food.

  2. I like Lotus of Siam but still need to try out more of their times next time I visit Vegas. Rosemary's I have a GC from a year ago, but it hasn't expired yet due to law and so hopefully I'll use it next time I go to Vegas.

Their curries are good, aren't they! I had a special one which one quite expensive last year and my it was good. But the portion was even smaller than yours.

I noticed their portion is smaller comparing to LA's.
But their flavor is so strong you really don't need (and probably can't eat) that much.
