[Monterey Park] [Chinese] 避風塘潮粵海鮮酒家 Seafood Village Restaurant

Seafood Village Restaurant
避風塘潮粵海鮮酒家

684 W Garvey Ave
Monterey Park, CA 91754

For my weekly lunch with my parents last Wednesday, I suggested to try Seafood Village Restaurant.  My ex-coworker Iris always tells me how great Seafood Village's lunch special is.  My parents have been to the Temple City location before.  This time we dicided to try the Monterey Park location.

We walked up to the door, and spotted the big red "C".  Hmmmm....  I guess this place is rated "C" for Chinese only?  haha....  The place was packed.  Seemed like nobody really cared about the C rating.

蓮藕排骨湯 Lotus Root & Pork Ribs Soup

As soon as we sat down, even before ordering, a waiter brought us a big bowl of Lotus Root and Pork Ribs Soup.  Love the Cantonese style soup.  It seemed like the soup was cooked for a long time on the stove.  Very yummy!  We each had 2 small bowls.

避風塘特式蒸滑豆腐 House Special Steamed Bean Curd ($4.59)

We had no idea how the tofu dish would be cooked when we ordered it.  We ordered it because it is their "House Special" Steamed Bean Curd, so it must be good.  The tofu was silky soft and smooth.  I had no idea what was on top of the tofu.  Maybe fish flakes?  I could taste fish sauce in it.  It had a slightly sour flavor, and we love it!  Really good tofu dish.

梅菜扣肉 Pork with Preserved Vegetable ($5.29)

Pork with Preserved Vegetable is probably my parents' favorite Chinese dish.  If we see it on the menu, they order it.  Unfortunately, most restaurants' version turned out to be quite disappointing in our opinion.  When we tasted Seafood Village's version, my parents immediately said this was one of the best pork with preserved vegetable they've had for a long time in a restaurant.  I agreed.  The stewed pork was soft and full of flavor.  It also had the perfect portion of fat and lean meat.  The sauce was great with rice.  Love love this dish!

蘆筍炒帶子 Sauteed Scallop with Asparagus ($6.89)

Sauteed Scallop with Asparagus was a light dish.  Lots of thick slices of jumbo scallop.  Asparagus tasted crisp and fresh.

避風塘特式炒蟹 House Special Crab ($4.99/lb) ($14.97)

House Special Crab is a must order item at Seafood Village.  The crab is only $4.99 per pound.  I didn't give us just one crab.  I think they already chopped up the crabs in the kitchen, and just grabbed a handful of the chopped parts for each palte because we got more than two of those giant claws in our plate.  This huge plate of yumminess only cost $15!  What a bargain!  The crab was fried, and sauteed with fried garlic and green onion.  It was full of aroma, and tasted so good.  The crab was meaty and sweet.  I just have to say, eating crab in Chinese restaurant not only is cheaper, but it tastes so much better than the American steam-and-dip-in-butter kind of crab.

Delicious lunch, so much food, and it was only $35!  And I thought about the yucky Chinese food I had in Irvine for $50, and it made me mad!  I want a Seafood Village Restaurant in Orange County!

  1. Hi, Eileen:

Love your post. Was it peanut on the top of the House Special Crab ?

I want to try the dish.. but I am allergic to peanuts..

It wasn't peanuts. It was fried garlic. There's no peanuts in this dish.
You can enjoy the crab if you visit the restaurant. ^^

  2. The Seafood Village in Monterey Park is much better than the one in Temple City. Some places try to hide their "C" behind a shaded window or something but it's no big deal. C = more flavor. Who ever said a kitchen needs to be clean to serve quality food?

    haha that's funny!

  3. I visited their Rowland Heights location last weekend, the crab per pound there was $2.99, also was their famous duck with tofu ($2.99 per dish), all dine-in price... I used the leftover of the sauteed fried garlic and green onion bits, added some fresh shrimps and calamari, finished with a dash of white wine and butter, and turned it into linguine di mare.... Garlic is the best ambassador for both Chinese and Italian cuisines...

$2.99? Seriously? Gotta visit their Rowland Heights location next time.
The linguine di mare sounds so good. I might just try to make it the same way next time.
    Thanks Kelli!

  6. Wow, that all looks so delicious, especially that crab. I always find it kind of awkward to eat shell-on seafood in restaurants because you have to pick it out with your hands and teeth and it's so messy. It sounds like you guys enjoyed it though!

haha I know what you mean. But I was eating with my family so we didn't care how messy it is.
I probably won't go eat this on a nice date though.
