We didn't have a satisfying lunch at Chung King so we were still craving for spicy food.  Lu Gi is my favorite Taiwanese style spicy hot pot restaurant.  So off we went.

Spicy Hot Pot ($3.50/person)

Spicy hot pot was devided into two sides.  One side spicy and one side non-spicy.  There were already vegetables and tofu in the soup base.  You can always ask the waitress to add more soup and tofu for free.

Beef ($4.75)

Everything is cooked in the hot pot.  For protein, we ordered beef.

Lamb ($3.95)

And lamb.  Both meat were fresh and good.

Shrimp Balls ($4.50)

Shrimp balls were a bit pricy.  $4.50 for 5.  But they were so worth the price.  The shrimp balls were big, and made of fresh shrimp.  It was really really good.

Intestine ($4.50)

Intestine is my must-get item for spicy hot pot.  Dr. Park wouldn't eat any when I first met him.  2.5 years later, now he likes intestine, too.  Maybe a few more years later, he will LOVE it as much as I do.

Oyster Mushroom ($3.00)

Oyster mushroom is delicious in hot pot.  It cooks fast and soak up all the yummy broth.

Ton How Vegetable ($2.50)

Ton How is good in hot pot, but only in the non-spicy side.  When we cooked it in the spicy side, it absorbed all the spicy oil and I couldn't stop coughing when I ate it.

Noodle ($2.00)

Cook the noodle at the end in the super delicious broth.  It definately filled us up.

Dr. Park said last time he had hot pot, the soup splattered into his eye.  So this time he came prepared.  So here it is.... goffy Dr. Park with his chemistry goggles.  He actually wore these goggles for the entire dinner.  I couldn't stop laughing, but nobody seemed to notice.

  1. 這時候有姊姊會看中文就很方便了.....
    是說...如果外國人看不懂中文,他們沒有英文版的MENU嗎?

    Nope, no English menu.
If you don't read Chinese, you'll have to bring a Chinese friend... or ME! haha....

  2. Eileen - This is Sheri from Maryland. I will be visiting LA for 3 days and am wondering if you have time to meet up. No pressure. I just want to see if you are available since I will be in the area. Tonghou (Taiwanese pronouncation) = Ton How. I found it funny that Tonghou is how they refer to our hot pot veggie in Malaysia.

    Cheers.

Hey Sheri. When are you going to be in LA?
I'm not sure if I have time because I'm so busy with school and work.
But let me know when you'll be here and I'll let you know my schedule, yeah? ^^

  3. hey, I put the goggles on only as a joke and took them off when we started eating :)

I wouldn't eat an entire meal w/ those on, but they do look really cool!

I thought you wore them until they started getting fogged up.
You're just too funny, baby. hahahaha....

  4. Are we soulmates? I am a stickler about having intestines whenever I can and it's my favorite additive to hot pot! ^_^ We just went here too and ordered almost the exact same things! My family loves Tong how in hot pot too. Hmm I will have to try the shrimp balls next time!

If you ever go up North you have to go to Ninji! Lu Gi was good but it is just no Ninji! Just thinking or talking about it is making me drool! The ma-la side is pretty good here at Lu Gi. My sister wants to go back again. lol
