We spent our New Year's Day in Hollywood. I met my coworker Iris's daughter Yi-Ping twice before. Ever since we met, sometimes she requests to talk on the phone with me when her mom calls her at work. I thought it would be fun to take Yi-Pink to see the movie "Bolts" in 3-D, and have her favorite chocolate ice cream for new year.
Dr. P and I got there a bit early. So we did a little sightseeing ourselves. Virgin Megastore, Highland Mall and Kodak Theater. I still remember how ghetto this area used to be. This new complex really made Hollywood Blvd so much nicer.
The famouse Chinese Mann Theater. Usually there are a lot of "characters" taking picture with tourist in front of the Chinese Mann Theater. But it was kinda quiet that day.
But we count Spider-Man doing his thing on the sidewalk. I wonder how long can he hold that position?
I did feel a little uncomfortable walking under his crotch, and was afraid to look up.... I wonder (again) do other people feel the same way as me?
12:00pm, January 1, 2009. I have never seen Hollywood Blvd this dead. I guess most people partied hard the night before.
Dr. P found his favorite actor from Tropic Thunder.... Tome Cruise!
Hey, wanna take a topless fun tour in Hollywood? haha....
We met up with Iris and Yi-Ping at the El Capitan Theatre. (And had ice cream next door at Disney's Soda Fountain later. Next post.)
Cutest little girl with her 3-D glasses. It was Yi-Ping's first time going to a movie. She was so excited.
Dr. P and I tried to look as cute as Yi-Ping with 3-D glasses, but failed.
El Capitan Theatre's ticket price is a bit higher at $17. But it's so well worth the price. Before the movie, a guy played all your favorite Disney music on this beautiful organ. Yi-Ping started dancing.
Then there was a pre-show of all the Disney characters came out to sing and dance. Actually no picture was allowed. Bad Bad me for taking this picture. This 15 minutes pre-show was really really good. I also LOVE the Cars "Tokyo Drift" cartoon before "Bolt".
I like the movie, but it was a little too much for 4-year-old Yi-Ping to understand the story. She did enjoyed watching the doggie and kitty running around though.
Iris told me the that after Yi-Ping's first experience in the movie theater, she's been playing this game called "Watching the Movie" at http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com. She takes out all her stuff animals and put them in a row by the window while she sits in the middle. Then they watch the "movie" outside the window. When Iris talks to Yi-Ping, she would say, "Shhhhh.... No talking during the movie." hahahaha.... It's so funny and so cute!
After the movie, it's ice cream time!
