We always pass by Restaurant 2117 when we go to the various places in the same plaza. This place always seems kinda empty. Their menu looks pretty good, especially their prix fixe 3 course $18 lunch. So Dr. P and I decided to give the restaurant a try.
We got their around 12pm. We were the first customers. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. We chose an inside table first, but the chlorine smell was so strong so we moved outside. They really shouldn't clean with strong chlorine right before they open. Oh well, at least I know they try to keep it clean. We both opted for the prix fixe lunch.
Split Pea Soup
For first course, we ordered a soup and a salad to share. The soup was split pea soup with an Asian taste to it. It was pretty good.
Salad
The salad was organic greens with a Japanese ginger dressing. We liked the dressing, and the greens were fresh.
Sauteed Scallops w/ Angel Hair Pasta, Fresh Tomato, Basil, Lemon Grass Coconuts Milk ($18.00)
For entree, I got the scallops with angel hair pasta. The scallops were great. The sauce was exceptionally good. I couldn't really taste the lemon grass coconut milk they stated on the menu though. No idea what was in the sauce, but it was so good. I almost wanted to lick my plate dry after I finished all the pasta. Dr. P thought this dish was really good as well.
Grilled Natural Round Top Sirloin w/ Red Wine Reduction Sauce, Organic Vegetables, Crispy Potato ($18.00)
Dr. P got the Grilled Sirloin. The presentation looked good.
We cut the super thick steak and the inside looked perfectly cooked. With lots of expectation, we both took a big bite. Then we both had this (*_*) look on our faces. This steak tasted really.... beefy, but not the good kind of beefy. It had a really strong "meat" taste that a piece of fresh steak shouldn't have. We tried to convince ourselves that maybe that's how "natural" steak should taste like (since they emphasize that they only use "natural" meat and organic vegetables here). We didn't like the meat... almost hated it. But the super crispy strings of potato was addictive.
Hot Chocolate Cake
Dessert was a piece of little hot chocolate cake. The warm chocolate cake was divine. Every bite was so rich and satisfying. At first I thought the portion was too small, but after finishing the super rich cake, I realized it was the perfect amount.
So we have mix feeling about this restaurant. We like everything we had except the steak. But Dr. P thought the steak was so disgusting that he said he'll never go back to this restaurant. So if anyone wants to try this place, I would highly recommend NOT to order the steak.

Hi Eileen,
ReplyDeleteOuch! My condolences to you and Dr. P for the bad experience. I've never been there either, and you had me laughing with the face expression (*_*). Hehehe (^_^;;
I really don't know if the beef was just bad that day.
Or is it always like that? Does "natural" beef taste way different than regular beef?
But isn't the "natural" one supposed to taste better than the regular beef?
How strange, I never thought Steak could be horrible if it looked that good. I wonder what was wrong with it, kinda scary! The dessert looked amazing.
ReplyDeleteI wonder, too. It just tasted really beef in a scary way.
I used to work in that same exact plaza. I used to go to Volcano tea and Hurry Curry a lot. I wished I was a little bit more sophisticated back then and try out this restaurant.
ReplyDeleteNo steaks huh? I never even knew they served steaks. I always got the impression that they are more Italian fluenced than French influence with Japanese touch. It's good to know. Thanks Eileen!
It was supposed to be a fusion dish. But the steak had absolutely no Asian influence.
It just tasted like a piece of steak (and not so good) with red wine sauce.
I've read good reviews about this place. Maybe we just didn't order the right item.
牛排超厚的!
ReplyDelete有嚇人~
不過擺盤很沒有美感
XDDD
太厚了然後真的不是很好吃
